VibhaChicago’s Community event at FMSC
With the inspiration and vision of providing service to make a difference in the society, Vibha Chicago Action Center actively got involved in the Feed My Starving Children Event on March 12, 2016 at Aurora, Illinois. The event aims at packing and distributing food to children deprived of food in various poverty- stricken areas such as Haiti, Nicaragua, and Philippines.
Building on Vibha’s motive of growing the seeds and improving the social conditions, the FMSC event proved to be a great opportunity for volunteers of all ages. It acted as one of the stepping stones and foundations for the young five year olds who are still imbibing the practice and value of “Service Before Self”. With the thought that they are helping their friends who are the same age as they are, the child volunteers packed with a big smile on their faces.
The event not only helped the volunteers provide service with an altruistic approach, but it also made the Vibha-Chicago family closer. Working in a team and collaborating with each other was vital while maintaining hygiene and packing rice, soy, veggies, and vitamins for the unfortunate children. The selfless service that the adult volunteers provided certainly gave them a serene and soothing feeling that acted as a stress- buster in their busy lives.
Vibha Chicago, along with many other teams of volunteers, packed 33,696 meals and enough food to feed 92 kids for a year after providing 2 hours of service. Our belief that our small selfless actions add up to have a great impact on people’s lives was deeply strengthened in everyone’s minds after this event. We aspire to keep this belief as our primary motivation for our further involvement in events targeted towards to the unfortunate people in this global society.
